Art of Travel Exhibit opens tonight at IDS12, Metro Toronto Convention Centre

Sasha Josipovicz, Studio Pyramid’s acclaimed interior designer, has captured the essence of traveling in style and with a sense of connectedness to every destination in his conceptual ultimate hotel room. The 12 foot structure clad in RIMOWA’s iconic stainless steel suitcases evokes a airplane wing, suggesting an elegant yet serious message about the way modern travel should be. The 400 sq ft modern “hotel room” is grounded with chic bohemian luxury flooring from Gusco’s Manhattan collection to soothe the most discerning traveler.

  • Contemporary high-end furnishings from Italy’s Flou define the space, enveloping the guest with a cocoon-like upholstered queen size bed, modern glass and marble end tables, generous work surface, accented with a white leather chair. The stainless steel wardrobe is the ultimate in functionality and modern clean aesthetics.
  • FontanaArte’s glowing white frosted globe lighting sets the mood and is a nod to the global reach of today’s traveler.
  • Gusco’s own unique Manhattan Collection of long board, wide plank premium engineered hardwood flooring in its signature Hampton color reminiscent of an iced driftwood, creates an aged look.
  • The iconic silver ridged suitcases from Rimowa complete the expectations of today’s modern traveler: performance, comfort and a sense of style.

“This room aligns an artistic aesthetic with modern functionality,” says Josipovicz who selected Gusco flooring as the bohemian influence similar to what is found in the Parisian Marais or New York’s Tribeca and SoHo, like Robert di Nero’s Greenwich Hotel. It is the contrast to the sleek modern furniture and lighting, and the grounding effect gives the room character, and the feeling of being a guest at someone’s house.

The Art of Travel is all about finding beauty in every part of your trip. The special IDS12 exhibit opens today and continues Friday January 27 for the trade, and January 28th – 29th to the public at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Gusco's Manhattan Collection oak wide plank in Hampton Iced Driftwood

In a special IDS12 exhibit the “Art of Travel” at the upcoming January 26-29 show in Toronto, Studio Pyramid’s designer Sasha Josipovicz has selected Hampton Iced Driftwood from Gusco’s Manhattan Collection. He chose a cool gray wash on an engineered wide plank oak floor to create a high contrast of natural, warm and welcoming floor to the  high-end contemporary furniture by Flou and lighting by FontanaArte.

The Art of Travel Exhibit is the perfect modern hotel room catering to the new-world creative class traveler, one who is traveling for business or for creative pursuits,” says Josipovicz, who was inspired by what he calls the sophisticated creative class world traveler.

Gray is the new leading colour trend in hardwood plank flooring. Traditional oak looks new again with a wash of warm or cool gray. Designers are using gray wide plank flooring with different finishes to create a sophisticated or relaxed and bohemian contemporary feeling.

Gusco floors are FSC certified

When the decision to go green came about, it created a buzz within our company that rocked the foundation. “We needed to change our ways, our values and our core beliefs” Alexander Lymberis, head of the design/fabrication department. This has become an initiative that will not stop there as Gusco Flooring new Environmental Sustainability Program is in full swing.
The first decision we made was to go with a green energy source for our fabrication facility and showroom located in Concord, Ontario. The purchase was a landmark decision for a green power supply which was contracted through BullFrog Power. One of the better decisions we made and have not looked back ever since.
One of the newest initiatives is the FSC certification which we are aiming to receive by September of 2008. Many policies will need to be put in place in order to become certified as the FSC is a no-nonsense company. FSC lumber is the way of the future as it is the way for responsible forest management practices. These rules and regulations are strictly adhered to by certified practitioners in order to create a chain of custody management policy that will allow tracking of lumber from the forests to the endproduct (ex. wooden tables, construction materials, flooring)
